Corporate Citizenship - Charter Environmental
About Us - Corporate Citizenship
At Charter, our culture is to reciprocate — giving and taking mutually as a member of civil society; to convene — collaborating to create solutions that ensure quality of life for all; and to revitalize — contributing our core competencies in environmental and civil work to our communities.

Charter — where being a corporate citizen is second nature

Our Commitments as a Corporate CitizenAt Charter, our performance as a civil and environmental contractor is directly dependent on our ability to be a good corporate citizen. To be successful, our work always begins with a commitment to partnering with our stakeholders including community groups, environmental groups, and Federal, State, local agencies. To this end, we gain a mutual understanding of all stakeholder goals and concerns to provide strategic solutions that not only minimize harm, but also improve the quality of life for all those involved and affected.

In addition to practicing good corporate citizenship through our day-to-day work, we are committed to contributing our core competencies to improve the quality of life in local communities. For example, as a member of the Corporate Wetlands Restoration Partnership, we contributed in-kind services to the Mill Creek Restoration Project, a collaborative, community-based effort to restore biological value to severely degraded estuarine wetlands in Chelsea, Massachusetts. During this project, Charter assisted in the re-grading of the salt marsh to eliminate invasive plants and remove sediment buildup on the marsh. The completion of this project was part of an overall plan to transform the Chelsea Creek area into an environmental, recreational, economic, and educational resource for East Boston and surrounding communities.

As a part of our corporate citizenship program at Charter, we are also committed to the economic development of economically challenged communities within Massachusetts. Thusfar, we have participated in Brownfields Programs in the cities of Lawrence and Lowell to support workforce development and provide employment opportunities for graduates of the Brownfields Job Training Programs, and will continue to participate in these exciting community development programs.

In addition to contributing our core competencies, Charter has continually provided financial contributions to meaningful causes supported by organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Shelter, Inc., the Lukemia and Lymphoma Society and events such as the Pan Mass Challenge and Special Olympics.

Practicing good corporate citizenship is also important at Charter's headquarters. For example, we continually evaluate the incorporation of sustainable practices into our day-to-day operations, including waste reduction through recycling, and the consideration of LEEDs design into our growing office space. Additionally, we understand that some of our key stakeholders are comprised of our own staff — stakeholders who are absolutely critical to the success of our business. As with our external practices, we ensure a mutual understanding of our internal stakeholder goals and concerns, always providing open channels and mechanisms for participation in the decision-making of our growing business and operations. To this end, we have successfully set the tone for our organization to operate cohesively to deliver the outstanding performance achieved in our history of doing business.

As our company grows — not only will we continue to contribute financially to meaningful causes, we are committed for the long haul, to protect and improve the quality of life for all in any way we can. We will continue to evaluate our performance as corporate citizens, as we believe a measured approach to building and maintaining our culture as corporate citizens is key to maximizing our contribution to society.
